What to see and do around Blaenavon

In addition to the railway, Blaenavon hosts a number of tourist attractions. Whilst we would like you to stay at the railway for your visit, here is a selection of links and information to the other attractions:

Blaenavon - World Heritage Site website. This page contains information on the various attractions.

Big Pit Mining Museum website. Big Pit is a real coal mine and one of Britains leading mining mueseums. Big Pit is now served by Trains from Furnace Sidings so why not combine your visit to the mine with a ride on the train? Parking is free at Furnace Sidings.

Blaenavon Iron Works - As featured on BBC's Coal House series, the iron works dates back to the 1780's.

For a stroll or picnic there are the Garn Lakes. Formed by the removal of the waste from Big Pit, the lakes are now the home to a diversity of birds and wildlife.

Also in the area are a number of walk's and cycle paths for the walkers and cyclists to enjoy.
