Pontypool and Blaenavon Railway

Like many heritage railways, the PBR has several related groups. These are either operate on the site at Blaenavon, or, who are otherwise related and need some web hosting. Hitherto their activities have been scattered around the website, but the time has come to arrange them so that their positions in the website are easier to find.

The Pontypool and Blaenavon Railway has both a Company, which basically operates the trains and issues tickets and the Society which is in a supporting role, raising funds through the Railway Shop in Blaenavon, producing the house magazine ‘Top Line’, and several other important activities. These, so to speak, are the ‘senior partners’. However there are a number of smaller partners:

The Pontypool and Blaenavon Locomotive Group.

This is the oldest of the smaller partners, having been formed in the early days of the PBR. Its aim is to restore locomotives for operation in preservation. The group owns and focuses all its efforts on restoring GWR pannier tank No.9629, and so is loosely referred to as the ‘Pannier Group’. For full details click HERE.

The Electric Multiple Unit Preservation Society (EMUPS).

This group has a three-car 3-CEP (TOPS Class 411) unit No.1198 at Blaenavon, which is being restored and runs now and again on the railway as hauled coaching stock. For full details click HERE.

Reliance Bus Preservation Group

These are friends from the bus world, who have supported us at each and every Transport Rally since we started the event. At the moment they are having a spot of bother with their server, so we are hosting them.. For details click HERE

Mech.Navvies Ltd.

The directors of Mech.Navvies Ltd. are a group of PBR members and owners of Austerity locomotive No.71515, which at present serves as the ‘default’ steam loco on the line. To visit their website click HERE
