Our Group
The Pontypool & Blaenavon Locomotive Group
was established in 1994 with the aim of acquiring, restoring and running
steam locomotives on the Pontypool & Blaenavon
Railway. In the years since then the Group has sought to raise money to
facilitate these ends, the majority of the funding coming directly from the
members.
The following year, 1995, the Group acquired the remains of Great
Western 0-6-0 Pannier Tank no.9629 which at that time was on a short length
of track outside the Marriots Hotel in Cardiff.
The loco was then moved to Blaenavon.
Money to fund this project comes largely from the members of the Group.
They acquire £60 shares in the locomotive by 2 means. Firstly by a regular
monthly direct debit which accumulates over each year
into share/s. Also other members buy shares using one of purchases.
A committee oversees the running of the Group and the restoration of the
Locomotive. Members are encouraged to become involved, but can hear about
the progress at the Group's Annual General Meeting or through the
Newsletter that accompanies this.
