To celebrate the opening of the new branchline to the Bip Pit Museum of Coal the Pontypool and Blaenavon Railway's 2011 Steam Gala featured 3 guest engines that used to work in South Wales. Sir Gomer (ex Mountain Ash), Mardy No1 aka the Mardy Monster (ex Mardy Colliery) and Whitehead (ex Whithead Wireworks, Cwmbran) returned to the Valleys for the weekend. Radio and TV presenter Roy Noble did the opening honours. An excellent weekend although Mardy No1 did fail on Sunday it (and the rain) didn't spoil the fun.
