Ecological
Survey
There is no doubt that the line of the railway down
to Blaenavon provides a rich and varied habitat for a variety of plants and
animals. The railway has long and
actively supported local and municipal agencies in their attempts to preserve
our ecology. Accordingly when we were
asked if we wished to have a survey undertaken we were pleased to say
‘Yes’. This task was awarded to Capita Symonds. The survey
work is now complete and a formal report is awaited. The possible presence of Pipistrelle
bats under the bridges caused some concern, but appears to have been a false
alarm. However the presence of Common
Lizards caused some temporary, though nevertheless unwelcome delay to work at Blaenavon
(High Level) platform.

Of course
this fellow wasn’t told about the survey.
‘What survey I can’t even spell it!’. A Common Lizard pops up near Furnace
Sidings crossing to see what all the fuss was about. |
