Industrial South Wales Steam Gala

16th, 17th and 18th September 2011

Celebrate our heritage and the unsung heroes of the pits and steel works as we welcome South Wales Steam back to the valleys. We will be running an intensive timetable on the 17th and 18th, the details of which will be made public in due course.

The anticipated opening of the Big Pit branch is due to take place on the 16th September with the first scheduled train departing Furnace Sidings at 11am with trains running up to 16:45pm.  Click here for Fridays Timetable and here for Saturday and Sundays Timetable

Highlights of the weekend:

  • Friday 16th September: The official opening of the branch to Big Pit followed by service trains operated by the visiting locomotives (one train, all stations)
  • Intensive Timetable utilising all above locomotives (17th & 18th)
  • Trains operating on the 'Main Line' and on the 'Big Bit branch'*
  • Demonstration Freight Trains
  • Photographic Display of Industrial Steam at Big Pit Mining Museum
  • A lecture on South Wales Industrial Railways at Big Pit during the afternoon on Saturday 17th September
  • Access to Andrew Barclay 0-4-0ST 'Nora' at Big Pit

The Fares for the Gala are £9.00 per Adult, £4.00 per child (over 4's and under 16's) or £22.00 for a family (2 adults and up to 3 children). Platform tickets will available at £4.00 each for those not wishing to travel.
